Kaiserbummel, or ...
... strolling with the Emperor
By pure chance we happened to visit Bad Ischl during the Emperor days (9-18 August, 2024). This is an annual celebration in honour of Emperor Franz Joseph’s birthday on August 18. The week is full of events, some of which I mentioned in my last newsletter.
According to the Tourist Association the celebration in honour of the Emperor’s birthday starts when the steam locomotive arrives in Bad Ischl, the red carpet is rolled out and people ride through the city center on noble horses in historical costumes. We did not see the steam locomotive but the red carpet was rolled out all over the old town. We did not catch sight of any horses, but many people who had dressed up accordingly to make this day a celebration, and enjoyment for us strolling around in our modern clothes.
It was all about seeing and be seen. I am thinking, maybe next year? I would love to dress up in an historical dress.
That was all from Bad Ischl and from there we went on to other adventures. More about them in coming newsletters.

I love that the red carpet layout was literal! That's cool -- so are the outfits!
